Best known for it’s rocky beaches, Exiles Bay in Sliema is a gorgeous stretch of seafront location adjoining the border of St. Julian’s to that of Sliema. During the summer months, hundreds flock to this area to soak up the sun at a beach lido or simply claim their spot on the rocks. It is rich in public amenities such as playgrounds and gardens, as well as being home to one of Malta’s more dominant water polo teams. The swimming spots are plenty, many having their own water sport and diving facilities. During the winter days the seafront is still active with joggers and walkers, as well as food and drink establishments. Exiles is located near St. Julian’s and forms part of Sliema, sitting prettily in between. This does mean Exiles experiences a majority of traffic passing through, which during peak hours can be time-consuming. The constant construction often causes traffic hick-ups yet finding parking is easier than it’s neighbouring areas.
The pros largely revolve around the lifestyle and quality of life one gets in return for their investment here. A few short steps and your feet are in the water, and the same goes for the various amenities and services.
The good part of it all is that the property is more within financial reach and readily available than anywhere to the left or to the right of this area. You therefore live in the between two very popular cities with the opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle in your bathing costume nearly all year round – for the brave, the water is warm enough all year round. Once you have had enough of the sun and sea you can choose one of the many coastal restaurants to treat yourself to a large option of foods and drinks. In the afternoon you can walk to a different spot, meet friends or make new ones as it happens to be a very open community of cultures. Go diving, pack a blanket, stick around for the sunset – it’s a lifestyle.
Commuting is fairly efficient also due to its central location therefore getting around is easier. Families, young couples and singles all benefit from the same conveniences Exiles offers. Often enough you’ll find that bars and restaurants will cater for all types and whilst some spots are frequented by younger individuals, there are many family friendly venues all day long – the beaches are a mix of both.
If we could liken Exiles to a more internationally popular destination, we would say it has similarities to the famed Venice beach. Artists and street performers adorn the promenade, and due to it’s spirit and way of life, Exiles has traditionally hosted Malta’s Street Art Festival – some of the work is still visibly on display, adding to the vibrancy of this community. The architecture is opposing, and in some cases, modern expansions are constructed above older buildings, creating a look some have praised, whilst others criticized. It is fair to say the people within this community are passionate about their living quarters and take pride in their space.
Apartments are the most readily available spaces at all times within Exiles. Houses seem to be making way for multi-level options instead which is changing the current landscape in a visually interesting manner. You are to expect paying a good price for a home with a sea view, as one would expect. However the prices are more reasonable than neighbouring upscale surrounding areas. Exiles makes for a great rental investment, second property by the sea or a place to call home. Prices will vary and an option is within reach for most.
