Font Ghadir| An introduction.

Font Ghadir meaning ‘deep lakes’ is one of the most popular areas of the Sliema coastline.  The area is dotted with receptacles dug out of the rock that were used for the production of sea salt.  Nowadays these shallow, flat receptacles are mostly used for sunbathing.

The long stretch of rocky shores sees many people gather here especially in the summer months for a day of swimming, snorkelling or simply to enjoy a day by the sea.  The promenade is popular for long walks and for a snack or good meal, day and night, while enjoying the shoreline.  The sea is deep, but generally clean, clear and safe to swim.

One of the unique features of this area are the bathing pools that can be found along one part of the sea shore, these pools have been carved within the rocks themselves and a great safe place to swim in especially for the less adventurous swimmers or if you have young children.

Font Ghadir Bay has been awarded the blue flag status in April 2016, meaning it meets the high standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management.  The coastline offers deep waters all along where many swimmers and snorkelers can be seen swimming along the long stretch of sea.  Watching sunset from here is also a beautiful scene, as the colourful sky displays different shades of red, yellow and pink with different strokes depending on the weather.  Summer days are mostly sunny with temperatures varying from 25-35 degrees Celsius during the day.

Malta is known to have 10 months of sunshine, therefore owning a sea view apartment here is one of the best opportunities to be in close proximity to the sea, enjoy beautiful sun sets over St. Julians in the distance, or simply sitting out on the terrace watching life go by as people stroll along the promenade or enjoying a drink in one of the many kiosks and café’s that overlook the sea.

For those who do not particularly enjoy swimming but simply want to cool off in the water, there is also a beautiful sea enclosure in a shallow area which is separated by rock, the water that gathers here sees many parents, children, older people and new swimmers lying within to enjoy a nice cool off without the need to paddle or swim at all. This is one you have to see for yourself as it is a truly a unique feature of this area.

With so much to do in this area, two healthy living establishments that serve gluten free and oat based breads and desserts, along with healthy snacks and meals, cold press juices and all that one can imagine generally open from breakfast time until late afternoon are also found here. Yoga classes, aerobics, outdoor and indoor classes and much more are available to do in this area.

This is a central hangout for most people therefore parking and traffic can be difficult at times, living here gives you the opportunity to be in the hub of it all, and walking wherever you wish to. Additionally, there are bus stops all along the promenade making it very easy to get from one place to another due to the large amount of buses arriving every 10-15 minutes. Having said that, we still recommend walking and enjoying the view if you have the option to, mainly because Maltese public transport & traffic congestions does not necessarily always make things faster.  Summer sees buses packed with passengers with not enough space for people standing on the bus stop to get a ride. Winter is much easier and can be an option to travel to nearby places for little money. Arriva Bus Numbers: 12; 13; 14; 15; 21; 22; 24 all stop in this area.
